Contradicting stories about where Griezmann is going

Atlético de Madrid’s forward has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months

Antoine Griezmann is on the front cover of the two big pro-Barcelona dailies today. Both ‘Mundo Deportivo’ and ‘Sport’ see Atlético de Madrid’s French forward in the Azulgrana shirt next season. The Madrid-based sports daily, Marca, however, offers a story that is substantially different: “Just two months later, the situation has flipped completely. Griezmann has taken himself off the market and instructed his entourage to stop discussions with the Catalan giants”, says today’s issue. “The Frenchman has brought negotiations with Barcelona to a halt”, says ‘Marca’, adding that “there is a suspicion that other teams have made clear their interest in recent days”. One of those suitors, says the paper, is Real Madrid.

This halt in negotiations, according to ‘Marca’, contradicts what the Barcelona dailies are saying. Sport reveals a supposed “secret pact” between Barça and Griezmann that includes a penalty clause for non-fulfilment and which will only depend on the will of the club chairman, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

In ‘Mundo Deportivo’, meanwhile, they are saying that Barça have decided to leave the number ‘7’ shirt free (which until now was worn by Arda Turan), and give the number ’14’ to Coutinho, in the expectation that Griezmann will come in and take it next summer.
