Coutinho’s “dream come true”

Barcelona unveil new star, who has no shirt number assigned yet

With no shirt number assigned to him yet, Philippe Coutinho donned the FC Barcelona shirt for the first time this Monday morning. “I would like to thank the club and the chairman for the efforts they have made and the patience they have shown”, said the playmaker, whose signing has been an ongoing saga lasting several months. “I am happy to be here, being here is a dream come true for me. I hope to produce on the pitch everything that is expected of me”, added Coutinho. He said nothing more.

The Barcelona chairman, Josep Maria Bartomeu, had little to add, though he did thank Liverpool for having allowed the player to leave, and, of course, the player for coming: “We have been wanting to sign him ever since last summer. The coaching staff have been telling us all this time that it was necessary. It’s not been at all easy, it’s been months of hard work, but Coutinho wanted to come here. His efforts and his patience have been decisive. He’s going to be here for a long time. There were other clubs who were interested in him.”

The ‘Culé‘ fans will, as it happens, have to wait some time before they see their new player in action, as at the moment of signing he was injured, and will be out for around 20 days, according to the club.
