Deulofeu says Dembélé and Coutinho forced him out

Spain forward admits he was not happy on the bench, so was happy to go on loan to Watford

Gerard Deulofeu has stated that he he has gone to Watford on loan as a result of circumstances. Not getting the minutes as a starter was what pushed him over the edge and led him to accept a loan deal, at a club in the lower half of the Premier League as the Bees, a team from a small town to the north of London, are.

Then ‘number 7’ told the Daily Express that the signings of Dembélé and Coutinho were the reasons why he took the decision to accept the move. “I’m not a player who wants to stay on the bench or not be in the squad. When I joined Barcelona I knew Neymar was in the team. Then he goes and in comes Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho. So my solution is to come here and regain my confidence”, he said.

Deulofeu is not losing sight of the upcoming World Cup. The Blaugrana forward has been chosen in some of Julen Lopetegui’s call-ups and knows that if he does not get the playing time he might not make it for Russia 2018. His aim is to be among the 23 players that the Spain selector announces in May.
