Dream debut for Álvaro Odriozola

“First cap, in the starting XI, three points, qualifying… you can’t ask for much more than that.” Thus summed up Álvaro Odriozola his debut for the full Spain team, in which he stood out for his performance and his contibution to the victory.

One of the key aspects of his game was the absolutely calm way he went into this full international debut. “I don’t get nervous about anything, that’s how you have to approach football and life”, he told Televisión Española after the game. The idea he has of how to play football is very clear, he puts it into practice playing for his club, and that was what he was told to do last night. “Before we went out, Julen told me I had been picked because of the contribution I could make to the team, like the way I play for Real”, he said. And that’s the way it was: fast down the wing, lethal with his crosses, but also getting back to defend admirably.

This debut perofmance puts him on the list of possibles for the 2018 Russia tournament, although that will be up to Lopetegui. “It would be a dream to be chosen to go to the World Cup and to be picked to play, but there’s a lot of work to be done”, concluded Odriozola.
