Lopetegui: “Motivation? Playing for Spain is enough”

The Spain coach announced changes to the team ahead of the clash against Israel, and said  he was not worried about any relaxation despite having already sealed the berth for the Russia World Cup

Spain, already through to the Russia World Cup after beating Albania in Alicante and Italy’s unexpected draw against Italy, face a game against Israel that is merely an academic exercise, but which, as Julen Lopetegui has stated, is important for many reasons, among them, the fact of representing Spain.

“There’s going to be no relaxing. Playing an international game for Spain will be enough”, he said, bluntly.  “From the moment you get here, everything is very intense. We are happy with how things are going, but above all we are very thankful for the way the players are responding.”

“They are all excellent, great sportsmen. They have everything necessary to compete at the top level, and that is what we are going to keep demanding of them, to carry on doing the work we are doing.”

“Yes, there are going to be changes. We are going to refresh the team. Every player who is here has what it takes to be in the starting XI. We will try to put out the best starting line-up to go into the game”, he said, although it appears Busquets will not be among them.: “Sergio will make it 100 caps against Israel. He respects his profession a lot and is a unique player”, he said, indicating that the Barcelona midfielder will most likely come off the bench.

The Spain coach also gave his opinion on the difficult situation Argentina are in at the moment, stating that: “Argentina are going to reach the World Cup finals, I am sure. And Messi as well.”
