Luis Suárez steps on the gas

After a shaky start to the season, Barcelona’s Uruguayan striker is back to his best form in front of goal

With the goal he scored against Valencia, Luis Suárez brings FC Barcelona closer to yet another Copa del Rey final. The Uruguayan striker, who went through a barren patch in front of goal, and a spell of poor form in his play in general, in the opening stages of the season, is now well back on track, as a glance at his recent stats shows.

Over the first fourteen games in LaLiga, Suárez found the net only five times, scoring against Espanyol, Girona, Atlético de Madrid and Leganés (twice). However, after this disappointing beginning to the season, the Uruguayan has picked up the pace and is now really stepping on the gas: since Matchday 15 he has not missed, and has scored in each of the eight games played until now. In total, he has added eleven more goals to his tally, taking it to sixteen, and is now only behind his team-mate, Leo Messi, and is two ahead of his immediate pursuer, Celta’s Iago Aspas.

As well as that, Suárez has also struck in the Copa del Rey: against Celta in the Round of 16, against Espanyol in the quarter-finals, and now, against Valencia in the semis.
