Man City still ready to move for Messi

Josep Maria Bartomeu has managed to get one of the two photos he was after to calm the fans down after a turbulent summer. The new ‘lifelong’ deal  that will bind Andrés Iniesta to the club for as long as the player wants has been welcomed by the Culé faithful, but the other one, that of Leo Messi putting pen to paper on his new agreement, has yet to happen. That is the photo and the event that the chairman’s critics, and little by little his supporters, are demanding.

The problem for the Blaugrana boss is that the clubs with the most financial muscle in the world of football are following the Argentinian star’s every move. Messi, according to Bartomeu, has already agreed to everything and the only thing missing is his actual signature, and the photo of him, pen in hand, putting it on the contract. Until this actually happens, though, the forward is, apparently, under contract only until June 30th 2018. For that reason, Manchester City are keeping a careful eye on developments.

According to today’s edition of the sports daily, As, at the Etihad Stadium they already have a huge bid lined up that would make the €220 million PSG paid for Neymar, until now the most expensive signing in the history of football, look like small change. City are prepared, reportedly, to put almost double that amount on Barcelona’s table: €400 million. The newspaper reports that sources close to the Citizens have said that “serious conversations have been held with the footballer’s inner circle” already.
